Review: Lightning: The Book of Luke and Gina (Day Zero #2) by B.J. Hyman
Publication Date: November 18th, 2016
Rating: 5 stars
Lightning Luke lived past Day Zero, the day he was appointed to die. As a result, he faded from the world in such a way that he may as well be a ghost. Even to his wife, Gina.
Until . . .
Fate lands Gina right in the crosshairs of the Angel of Death and her own Day Zero. Death is a formidable foe. Especially when he has helpers. A killing crew has been hired to take Gina out for being a witness—showing up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Suddenly, Gina can see Luke again after three years of believing he’s dead. Their reunion has an expiration date. They could have forever together, if only he can keep her alive for the next 24 hours.
Whether it’s life or death, it’s irreversible. The countdown of her eternity has begun.
I really enjoyed reading Luke and Gina’s story in the second installment of the Day Zero series. It’s more than just about finding lost loved ones, it’s about a choices and how those choices can change everything. With this one, there’s a lot of action which kept me on my toes more than once, and there’s some twists that I never saw coming. Lightening definitely kept my interest and I really enjoyed how this one was laid out. Not only did I get Luke and Gina’s POV, but there’s also other POVs that make the story so much better. I’ve always loved getting different sides to a book and seeing how everything will turn out.
I would recommend reading the first in the series before picking this one up and I’m glad I had read it before. I will also say I’m looking forward to seeing what will happen with the next book in the series. Honestly, I feel like there’s going to be something major to happen because so many things I didn’t see coming happened. I won’t say because I don’t do spoilers, but I definitely will be on the lookout for book three.
