Review: Dark Liaison by J.D. Brown

Publication Date: 5/31/2013
Series: Ema Marx #2
Rating: 4 Stars

Official Blurb:

The Ema Marx Series continues with the tantalizing sequel:

Ema Marx wishes her life would go back to normal, but there’s nothing normal about being a Romani-Vampyre with an ancestor who wants you dead. Apollyon is back, wreaking havoc on the lives of everyone she cares about while plotting her demise.

Ema thought she would find a new best friend in her trainer, Bridget, until the exotic vampire vies for Jesu’s attention. Jesu can date who he wants, right? Ema has more important things to worry about, like honing her powers. When Apollyon’s thugs appear out of the shadows to attack her, Ema knows it’s time to take action. But everyone else has other plans in mind.

One thing is for certain, being under house arrest in the German vampyre king’s castle was not part of her plan to save the day.

For the first book in the series, see DARK HEIRLOOM by J.D. Brown

Hang on to your literary hats folks!! This book is going to be a wild thrill ride!! Brown’s newest addition the Ema Marx series is action packed and tantalizing good. With Ema’s newly risen family member stalking the earth, things are about to go bat shit crazy. Ema’s living life on the run while hell brings to fall upon the earth. She’s about to make more than one connection to her past and they not exactly be friendly.

When I thought I couldn’t fall more in love with this unique vampire plot based novel, I did. Dark Liaison takes the beautifully dark plotted world that Brown meticulously built in Dark Heirloom and sends it spinning out of control. Our brave protagonist Ema is faced with more trials and tribulations in this book than ever before. One of the best things about Dark Liaison other than its twisted dark plot is the further development of Ema as a character. She’s learning more about her ancestry, heritage, and future with every page. This book honestly in my opinion not only built upon the tension and angst for the primary plot of the story, but character growth as well. Ema begins to finally understand her part in this world.

With every turn of the page in this 400 page novel, I found myself more enamored with the world that Brown as masterfully built. It’s dark and scary yet hides just a bit of romance and happiness underneath the level of dark soot. If you scrape about just enough, you can see those moments shine.  Now, I know I talked about the cliffhangers in the the previous books, but this one literally will knock you out of your chair and leave you screaming at your mode of literary enjoyment.  Holy shit.. when does the next book come out!?!!?!?!?
