Review: Marked by Rebecca Zanetti

Publication Date: 12/22/2014
Series: Dark Protectors
Rating: 5 Stars

Official Blurb:

Janie Kayrs has known Zane almost her whole life. He was her friend in the dream world. She trusted him. But that was before he kidnapped her, spiriting her away to an isolated cabin to learn what her dreams never told her. Like how dangerous he looks. How he got on the wrong side of the negotiating table. And how much sexier he is in real life…

Zane is a battle-hardened warrior, used to command and solitude. But Janie has drawn him from the minute they met. His need for her could destroy everything he’s worked for, but the risk is too sweet not to take it. They call her the Chosen One. But when it comes down to the questions of peace or war, life or death, safety or passion, it will be Janie who makes the choice…

This is it.. the epic finale of the Dark Protectors series. Going into this book knowing that we’d find out what exactly the long awaited and fated prophecy regarding Janie would be is almost surreal. On one hand, I was ready for the conclusion while I think I struggled with the fact that this was the last time the infuriating Karys men were going to be in a shiny new series. Sure, I can go back and visit them again some day, but it’s never the same feelings the second time around. Anywaaaaaay… back to our regularly scheduled program.

I will say this upfront, I will not even hint to spoilers for this book because I think if you love the series as much as I do, you don’t want to be robbed of the emotionally charged action in Marked. This is all about Janie and her prophesied fate to end the war for one side or the other. Our favorite dreams boys are back in action. Janie’s a little older and wiser when it comes to the tricks of men, and she shines in her showcased tale. She’s the heroine she needs to be and not a shrinking violet.

Zane is everything I hoped his dream portrayal would be. He has some shocking genetics I will say. That discovery also leads to an interesting side bit of the Karys family tree as well. Zane wants to protect Janie and keep her for himself at the end of the day. He’s willing to risk it all for her. He has family problems of his own that play into this story.

There are so many emotions that come to mind when I turned the final page of Marked. So much happens in this book that again without spoiling anything I can’t be too specific. Virus-27 rears its ugly head yet again and it’s mutated itself to cause serious damage. This book for me was probably one of the best written and plotted finale books of a long standing series. Zanetti really plays on all your emotions. You’ll laugh, cry, scream in anger and in frustration, right along with Janie and Zane. I will say Zanetti wraps up this story with a look into each of the men’s lives which is a nice touch as so many characters have come into my heart in this series. She isn’t exactly leaving us out to dry with no Karys action as a new spin off series will debut sometime in 2015.
