Review: Temptation by Robin Covington

Publication Date: 8/5/2014
Rating: 4 stars

She needs to be good.

Five years ago, Kit Landry was homeless and alone at sixteen. Determined to ditch her crappy life, she moved to Nashville with only $200, her guitar, and a notebook full of songs. She hit it big as America’s country sweetheart, but a year of living like a rock star plus a stint in rehab has killed any good will she had with her label. The suits have ordered Kit to shape up or ship out of the limelight. The last thing she needs is a hot, sexy distraction with a sinful smile.

He doesn’t know the meaning of the word.

Max Butler is as far from a celebrity as you can get and he likes it that way. A Nashville firefighter, he’s living the single life with a revolving door of parties, friends, and a different woman in his bed every night. When his normal life suddenly collides with the girl on his favorite Rolling Stone cover, he sees the perfect chance to fulfill his ultimate fantasy and see just how bad Kit can be.

Sometimes bad is so very good.

With three weeks until Kit leaves for her big tour, Max promises to give her a break from being the good girl--no strings attached. But when hot days lead to sultry nights, the lines get blurred and suddenly three weeks of bad might not be good enough.

Kit’s life growing up wasn’t exactly what you would call easy. She lived with loss and heartbreak for many years. When she had nothing left to lose, she packed up her belongings in a single backpack, grabbed her grandfather’s guitar Jolene, $200 in cash and went to Nashville. 5 years later, she’s one of the hottest country music stars on the planet. Her rise to stardom wasn’t exactly ideal when heartbreak drives into a dark downward spiral. That spiral continues when she finds herself trapped in burning building, but when an angel comes to her rescue she can’t shake the feeling that her life is about to change.

Kit’s angel is a very attractive fireman named Max. Unknown to Kit, Max isn’t exactly the angel she imagined him to be during her rescue. He’s got a dark past of heartbreak and loss just as she does. He’s not the hearts and flowers kind of guy. But, when his dream girl literally falls into his line of sight, he knows he’s in trouble. He’s a huge fan of Kit’s music, but getting to know the real Kit inside of the country music star shell is when he knows she’s going to change his ways. It’s not going to be easier for either of them to move on from their dark pasts, but maybe together they can brave the darkness and find the light.

Temptation is marvelous. This story is about a journey of two people whom desperately need to find “the one” thing in their life to keep them on the right path. Both have suffered tragedy at a young age, and are fighting to regain the balance they need in their lives. This story isn’t so much about love, but finding redemption through love. Covington shows in this novel that you don’t need a plethora of background characters to showcase the story she’s telling. I also the sheer fact that their love is complicated and littered with hurdles. Love is never easy. Every day love has so many emotions, thoughts, and pressure tied, which are beautifully portrayed in this book. The ups and downs of their relationship will leave you in both happy and sad tears. I would recommend this book if you want to read a real story, one that will hit close to home for many of us in the underlying themes of this book and by its end will your day brightened beyond belief.
