Official Blurb:

My name is Alana Devereaux. I enjoy the simple things in life, walks in the park, sky gazing, and ripping a demon's heart out through its chest. I am a demon slayer, the last of my kind, and I have been sent back through time to save your world. How am I doing so far? My time travel went haywire, all the signs I needed to stop the prophecy have passed, and the only way I can save my world is by keeping yours from ending. Then there's Gaelen, most days I want to deck him. He hides his true motives and if it was not for the intel he had, I would be rid of him. Any day in my life without a demon attack is a good day; I haven't had a whole lot of those lately. The only problem is, if I don’t stop the Mutari, this world will burn.

Review:

I received Anointed from the publisher for an honest review in return. Upon first reading the official blurb, I was skeptical about this series. I assumed it would be just like any other urban fantasy I've read before. I have never been so wrong life. It’s not often that I find a new series from an author that I am not previous acquainted with that I've fallen in love with after the first few chapters. This fresh take on a post-apocalyptic world will leave you wanting more.  This book pulls you in from Chapter 1 and takes you on the wildest literary ride of your life.

A world on the edge of total annihilation is our setting. Alana, the protagonist, must travel back in time to save her world from the impending demon invasion. In her present time, Alana’s world is falling and the only way to prevent such destruction is to stop it from ever beginning.

Alana is what a strong female heroine needs to be in an urban fantasy. To put it plainly, Alana is a bad-ass. She’s the ultimate warrior queen in her dark world. She’s willing to do whatever is necessary to secure her means to an end for her mission. If she fails, she will be there a second time to watch the world’s fall into darkness. Though at times she doubts her abilities and strengths, she dusts herself off and charges head first back into the battle.

Our somewhat protagonist/antagonist brooding alpha male Galean spices up the story even more. He brings a different depth to an already complex story. He wants Alana at first sight and will have her. He admires her for her fighting abilities and upon discovering her part in the opening of the world portal will stop at nothing to protect her. She belongs to him and no one else.

Gallagher’s beautifully described world and exciting characters make this new series a must-read.  I greatly look forward to more works in the Cantati Chronicles.
