About the Book

Maggie’s entire life has been a lie, right down to the day of her birth. With changes overtaking her body, and questions mounting, Maggie has to find a way back to her father, the only person who actually knows what is going on inside of her.
Fear surround her daily as memories from a life she has never lived resurface.
Faced with no other options, she is forced to join the Brotherhood. There, her connection with Killer grows deeper and deeper.
Soon, lines are not only crossed but also blurred and she begins to wonder who the real enemies in all this are…
Killer went through hell to get back to reality—to her. Now he’s on the verge of losing the one thing that stabilizes him most—Maggie. Through the chaos, the lies, and the revenge for blood, will the two of them be able to come out on the other side together, or were they always meant to be enemies.
Sometimes you have to lose yourself in order to find your soul.

I really don’t know how to explain this one. While interesting, there’s a lot that I couldn’t look past like I normally could. First, let me just say, this review may sound bad, but I’m in no way saying you shouldn’t give this book or this series a try. Maybe it just wasn’t the one for me. I thought I would like the series and this book more going into book two, but I was sadly let down.
From the very beginning I was confused. I actually had to stop and make sure I was reading the second book, because I thought I missed something. The book starts where book two left off, only Maggie and Killer both have no memories. I got bits and pieces of what happened, but still no actual facts of what happened while at the cabin. Now, both Maggie and Killer are at a new facility, with brand new characters. What I didn’t like about this is, there’s no back story to any of it. It’s kinda just there and I had to roll with it. And the new leader Maggie and Killer are under, Ty, is unlikeable to the characters but I really didn’t understand why that was. I think the reason why I was so disappointed with this book is the constant back and forth between Maggie and Killer. I thought things were resolved between them, but sadly, it’s as if they both took a huge step back. Then again, maybe it’s because I learned new things about Maggie and she’s going through a lot of changes. But it was very frustrating to say the least. I wanted Maggie and Killer to come together and work out their problems. All they had to do was talk to one another…

I really can’t say for sure if I’ll continue this series. While J.L. Beck has a great idea for this series, the answers I wanted from book 1 were never really answered. If anything I have more questions and I feel I won’t get them until the last book of the series. Yes, there’s some answers, but they’re not explained at all. This is a fast paced book as well, and I wish more things were explained. I give props to the author for having such a unique idea, but I wanted more out of this book.

*~*~*~ 3.5 Stars *~*~*~

When I first noticed the blurb of Project Killer, I was instantly intrigued. I’ve always loved reading dark romances and this one looked like it would be a good read. I’d seen this book all over Facebook and I decided to give it a try.
I think my expectations were a little high for it, and this book was completely different than I thought it would be. From the first page you get the POV of Maggie in the past. I actually liked it started off in the past because I got a sense of what the story would lead up to. Maggie for me was a loyal friend. I liked that about her, but as the story continued to the present, I felt she put herself in situations only to be hurt in the end. She was naïve but I understood her need to find a cure for the cancer that took her friends life. Although it made things worse for her, she did have Diesel’s best interest at heart.
Then you meet Killer. He’s been genetically altered by the government and from first impressions, he’s a ruthless killer. He’s plagued with memories that come out of nowhere, and I didn’t realize his memories where taken away from him until much later. It was hard for me to even like Killer because he’s just that character that’s unwilling to change. He wants things done his way and his way only.
I really do feel like the author had a great story-line when she wrote the book. It was interesting and a nice twist to things I normally read about government experiments. However, I gave it a 3.5 because there’s no consistency to the book. One moment I was in the past then it jumps to the present. Halfway through the book, I was still confused as to what was happening. I did have to fill in the gaps with my own imagination, but I could be wrong. I think if the author had wrote Maggie and Diesel’s past first (like a prequel) it would’ve flowed better. It was also very fast paced. I would’ve liked a bit more detail with what was really going on instead of only getting just a taste of it. I will say, I am interested enough to read book 2 just to see where things will go. I hope that Maggie and Diesel overcome the obstacles thrown at them and things will be clearer with book 2.
