Review: F*ck Love by Tarryn Fisher

Publication Date: 12/31/2015

Official Blurb: Helena Conway has fallen in love.
Unwillingly. Unwittingly.
But not unprovoked.
Kit Isley is everything she’s not—unstructured, untethered,
and not even a little bit careful.
It could all be so beautiful … if he wasn’t dating her best friend.
Helena must defy her heart, do the right thing, and think of others.
Until she doesn’t.

F*ck Love left me truly mind f*cked.  Even after finishing this book nearly a week ago, I don’t know the exact words that I would use for this review.  After the complete and utter out of left twist thrown in within the first two chapters, I was left dumbfounded and confused.  There were so many times I had to stop and re-read the previous chapter because my mind just couldn’t grasp the varying story lines and separate reality from dream state.  This is the kind of book that once you finish it you will ask both “What the hell did I just read?” and “How in the hell do I write this review?”

Helena bubbly personality instantly disappears after a single dream and as I read, I really wished the Helena from chapter 1 would have flowed into the rest of the book. Kit, on the other hand, at times became the bane of my existence during certain points of the story. His constant back and forth on the major plot lines of this stories really began to rub me the wrong way.  I got to the point a few times where I would rather he just disappear into the night than to constantly tease and plague Helena’s emotions and life.  I do have to make mention that Fisher’s love for Harry Potter culture that is wildly acknowledgeable through Helena’s dialogue made my inner Potterhead snicker with delight.

All in all, I liked this book even though my mixed feelings about some of the situations.  I think this book will fall into three categories for readers, love, hate or the middle of the road.  For me, I definitely fell into the latter category.  While this was my first Tarryn Fisher book, I will definitely try more of her books in the future.

Whew this book… I have such a love/hate relationship with this one. I knew going into it what to expect well kind of but I didn’t realize how crazy insane this book really was. It kept me sucked in because I wanted to know the outcome of what happened, but also it kept me highly pissed off at least 60% of the book. I screamed, yelled, cussed, screamed again, wanted to punch the characters, and almost broke my kindle. The title does this book justice cause it’s not an easy read that’s for sure.

I really liked Helena and I was pulling for her throughout the book. I wanted her to actually get what she wanted in life, but at times I also wanted so smack her for her choices. I wanted to be like REALLY girl don’t fall for that WAKE UP!! I hated Della and I will never ever like her. She isn’t a likeable person at all. OH KIT… I am completely 100% on the fence about him. At times, I felt he was a coward and other times he was actually kind of likeable. Writing this review is bringing back emotions and some aren’t pretty. This book isn’t easy to read at times but it does have an HEA but it’s hell to get there.
