Something Wicked This Way Comes...

As a thief, I stick to the shadows as much as possible. But when the head of the Sinclair Family picks me to compete in the Tournament of Blades, there's no escaping the spotlight—or the danger.

Even though he's my competition, Devon Sinclair thinks I have the best shot at winning what's supposed to be a friendly contest. But when the competitors start having mysterious "accidents," it looks like someone will do anything to win—no matter who they hurt.

As if I didn't have enough to worry about, mobster Victor Draconi is plotting against Devon and the rest of my friends, and someone's going around Cloudburst Falls murdering monsters. One thing's for sure. Sometimes, humans can be more monstrous than anything else...

With the second book in the Black Blade series, Estep dives into more of Lila’s history and new life.  She embraces her new role as bodyguard all the while fighting off her steadily growing feelings for the boy she’s supposed to protect.  Lila is thrust into the unwanted limelight as all the families compete in a somewhat Olympic style games.  Feuds and emotions will run hot as the competition grows fierce.  Lila stumbles into something she never dared dream of and she may not exactly be who she thinks she is.  Her mother definitely has secrets of her own.

I think I liked this book much better than the first.  Lila’s character blossomed a bit more into her strong female demure and handled some pretty emotional plot reveals beautiful.   She’s a girl after my own heart with her bacon obsession. Seriously, who doesn’t like bacon?  All in all, this is another great addition to what I can only assume will be a great YA series for Estep after the conclusion of her Mythos Academy series.
