Review: Get Off On The Pain by Victoria Ashley

Publication Date: February 1, 2015

Series: Standalone

Rating: 5 Stars!

Official Blurb: Sexy, tattooed and inevitably dangerous. Memphis is all that and more…

I live for the pain; it’s what drives me to keep moving. But there comes a time when one has to push the demons aside in order to survive.

I thought I buried them deep. I thought I was ready to finally live. Until… my brother, Alex; he throws me into the fire—right into the place I could never control myself, the one place I never want to be again.

When I put my hands on people, they get hurt. Things happen that bring me back to that night. The one that will forever torment me.

I’m doing fine, keeping to myself in order to ensure no one gets hurt by me. Then along comes Lyric, and all I want to do is touch her, to put my hands in places that I know will only lead to her being crushed by me.

She’s the rush that I crave. The darkest of poison running through my veins, killing me bit by bit; like a drug I can’t get enough of even though I’m almost down to my last breath.

And being around her only hurts more, but what she doesn’t understand is that I welcome the pain; I get off on it, which in the end leaves me with the hardest decision of my life—one that might get us all killed…

Review: This was my first book by Victoria and I was sucked in from page 1. It’s told through both Memphis and Lyric’s POVs. An emotional roller coaster ride doesn’t even hit the tip of the iceberg with this one.

First off, I love both characters names!! When the book starts, I wanted to know why Memphis was the way he was. I wanted to know why he spent time in jail and what he did to get there. Obviously all those answers don’t come until later but I still needed to know. I don’t know how many times Memphis pissed me off in this book. One minute he was hot and the next so cold. He is cocky and arrogant but there is also a side to Memphis he is hiding. At one point I wanted to crawl through my kindle and just hold him. Memphis comes back to town for one thing, to find his brother but what he gets is a whole lot more.

Lyric is someone I fell in love with right away. Her amazing personality and how quirky she is. I knew that Lyric didn’t have the best life either and was also hiding a few things. But when she sees Memphis, she knows he is not the man everyone claims or is he? One minute he is so sweet and the next knocks her back 10 steps. She is starting to think everyone is right about him but then he goes and does things she never expected so how could he be that ma?!.

This book will definitely keep you guessing until the very end. Once I found out why Memphis was the way he was I felt so bad for him but also I felt pride. He did what he had to do for his family that he loves more than anything. I loved watching the changes in Memphis while being around Lyric and slowly letting her in. Now don’t get me wrong, I wanted to throw my kindle a few times and smack him but he actually turned it all around. I can’t wait to start another book because this one is definitely amazing!
