Review: A Beautiful Mess by T. K. Leigh

Publication Date: August 27, 2013

Series: Book 1
Rating: 4 Stars

Official Blurb:

What happens when you lose everyone that promised they would always be there for you? How can you protect the few pieces of your shattered heart that remain?

Olivia Adler is a woman with a troubled past. After losing her parents at the young age of six and being raised by an uncle who she lost years later, she refuses to get attached to anyone, including friends. For the past decade, she has been able to remain unattached to any man, too worried about losing someone to get too close. Until Alexander Burnham walks into her life one night and changes everything. But he has issues of his own. And he’s keeping a secret that could turn Olivia's world upside-down. Will Olivia let Alexander in enough for him to get close and protect her from a force threatening her very existence, or will she push him away, scared of letting Alexander in, in order to protect her heart?

A Beautiful Mess is the first installment of a three part series sure to captivate the heart with a story of secrets, courage, and love.

Recommended for ages 18 and up due to sexual situations, language, and mild violence.

This was my first book by T.K. and I was pulled in right from the get go. I was so sad for Olivia she had been through so much as a child and I could understand her commitment issues in the beginning. Olivia isn’t looking for love but when Alexander helps her out and continues to always be there, she starts slowly changing her mind.

I love how this book was told from both Olivia and Alexander’s POVs. We get the back-story of Olivia’s life and we get the secrets from Alexander’s. Yes there are secrets… big ones. I am not one for spoilers but some of these secrets could change people’s lives drastically. I was very interested throughout the book and I thought things were changing until the ending. There were a few things I wish that were done differently but overall the book kept me going until the end. Hopefully the next 2 books clear the air and all secrets will be laid out on the table. god.. this book... I mean seriously...

It's good! This was my first T.K. Leigh book and it was good.  Olivia is a troubled soul who's life has been far from ideal. She doesn't remember the secrets of the past after a childhood accident, but someone has been looking for her for a very long time.  She feels lost in her life and her faded memories hold the keys to unlocking her dangerous future.  Darkness lies in wait for her and she has no idea she has a target painted on her back.  The only good part of her life is meeting Alexander. He's pantie melting hot and comes with own secrets. Hearts will find love again and be shattered into bits.  That's why life is just a beautiful mess.

During this entire book, I screamed TELL HER DAMMIT!!! The secrets are honestly what made the story for me.  You have the feeling at the very beginning that things are not what they seem in Olivia's world.  As the story progresses you dive deeper and darker into the past and it will shock you. There's so many questions that are left unanswered and the ending will leave you begging for more.  My only complaint was that the alternating POV in each chapter instead of individual chapters really threw me off with the flow.  So, all in all, great story, but a little muddy flow wise!
