Review: This Man Trilogy by Jodi Ellen Malpas

Publication Date: 10/20/2012

Rating: 6 Stars!!!!

Official Blurb:

Young interior designer Ava O’Shea has an appointment for a first consultation at The Manor with the owner, Mr Jesse Ward. She is expecting nothing more than an overweight, cravat wearing, well-to-do countryman, and on arrival, nothing would suggest otherwise. How wrong could she be? This Man is devastatingly handsome, charming and confident. He is also a conceited, hedonistic playboy, who knows no boundaries. Ava desperately does not want to be attracted to him, but she can’t control the overwhelming affect he has on her. Every instinct is telling her to run, so she does, but Jesse Ward is not so willing to let her go. He wants her and is determined to have her. She knows she is heading for heartbreak, but how can she run when he won’t let her?

This series… just… wow. I can honestly say that I waited way too damn long to read this story.  Once I picked up This Man, I was a reading machine until I put down This Man Confessed. There were so many times while reading this book I wanted to strangle Jesse and Ava for various reasons, mostly Jesse. I’ll admit that it took me until the end of This Man to truly understand the hype about this trilogy. Since binge reading Fifty Shades of Grey, I have not connected with a book series on this kind of forget life level.

Jesse is a controlling S.O.B. who is borderline psychotic in his need to be bossy and arrogant.  He is the Lord of the Manor and sets his sights on Ava as soon as she meets him about designing rooms at his manor.  Soon we find out just what happens behind the closed door of the Manor and how Jesse plays into the activities there.  I didn’t instantly fall in love with him before I knew his dark side. Once the darkness rolled into the story, I fell instantaneously in love with him. Jesse is a fucked up guy and he has his reasons for being that way. He’s far from perfect and I love that about him. He wants to be better, but his demons pull him back when shit hits the fan.   His secrets provide a humorous side to the story when he refuses to reveal his age to Ava, and boy when she does find out… break out the fire extinguishers! Panties on Fire!!

Ava, on the other hand, is the sweetness to the trilogy with just enough sass and a sailor’s mouth to keep her an interesting character. She’s been burned by men in the past and all she wants is a nice rebound fuck and to move on with her life. Little does she know that submitting to the Lord will be the beginning in her new life. Her resolve will be tested and boundaries will be crossed as the story continues into the 2nd and 3rd book. You will love Ava! Be prepared to ride an emotional rollercoaster with her!

This book is amazing and I hope that anyone who loved Fifty Shades or dark romance novels will give this series a chance because quite frankly I want This Man to be My Man.
