Review: Outlaw by Nicole James

Publication Date: 4/13/2013
Series: The Outlaw #1
Rating: 4 Stars

Official Blurb:

When outlaw biker, Cole Austin sees a young woman handcuffed and being dragged across the yard of the Dead Souls Motorcycle Club's remote clubhouse, he's stunned by the realization of just how dark his world has become. This scene is even more than his twisted soul can stomach. Compelled to intercede and save her, he has no idea his whole world is about to change. He believes he's doing the right thing until a secret she's hiding makes him question if saving her may be the biggest mistake of his life. The two strike a deal, a deal they may both come to regret. Can his soul be saved? Is there anything he won't do for her? Are there some things he just can't? And are there some things she can never forgive?

Mixed reviews be damned, I loved this book. Instead of a long drawn out biker romance story over multiple books, James gives us a complete story in one single go. Cole and Angel’s story is quite conventional when it comes to a biker romance. Cole saves Angel from a brother club’s resident psychopath. Their romance story is filled with deception, lies, heartbreak, and finally peace. The passion between these two characters is melt the sun hot.

Cole is a hard on the outside, soft on the inside biker which I absolutely love when it comes to his relationship with Angel who is a bit naïve and young during part1 of the book. However, during the second part of the book Angel really shines for me. She has grown up so much over the time jump and has finally blossomed into the character I knew was inside of her. Though I was quite surprised at the source of their seeing each other again years down the round, I was happy with how it blended the couple back together again in this case.
While fans of the grittier side of MC Romance may not  relate to this story as much as others, I did enjoy this book. I know this book has received a lot of mixed reviews, but I think that’s because it’s not your typical biker read. It drives home the sense of belonging somewhere and loving someone so deeply that you’re willingly to let them walk away. This story isn’t about just the dark side of the MC world bleeding into biker romances with their women, but how the lifestyle can affect everyone around you and your needs in life. Cole and Angel travelled a hard road together so I knew that going into part 2 things were not going to just instantly fall back into sync again. Outlaw just goes to show that sometimes love really does conquer all.
