Review: Beautiful Outlaw by Emily Minton

Publication Date: 11/16/2014
Series: Savage Outlaws MC #1
Rating: 4 Stars

Official Blurb:

After ten years of surviving as a walking, talking, living doll, Laura feels dead inside.

She has sacrificed everything for her family, marrying a man she could never love. Her husband doesn’t beat her, doesn’t berate her. He transforms her, forcing her to live as a stand-in for his long dead wife. She stays silent as piece after piece of herself disappears, willing to do anything to protect the people she loves.

When his demands go too far, she finally tells her brother the ugly truth.

Wanting to protect her without putting the rest of their family at risk, he sends her to the one place he knows she’ll be safe. He places her into the hands of his best friend, Vice President of the Savage Outlaws MC.

Once again, she is transformed into someone new; Shay.

Bowie has spent many nights dreaming about his best friend’s little sister. The reality is so much sweeter than his dreams. He wants to be more for Shay, needs to protect her, but he’s not sure if he knows how.

Can an Outlaw show her how beautiful life should be?

I’ll admit going into this book I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect as this is my first book by author Emily Minton. I was honestly surprised when I finished it that Minton had packed so much a story into this book. Laura is a 10 year veteran of the battered wife club with her former husband. He’s turned her into the image of his ex-wife and forced her to live that woman’s life. She escapes and begins her life anew with the help of her estranged brother. Little does Laura/Shay know, her life is about to become a little more crazy with the Savage Outlaw MC and her protector, Bowie.

I couldn’t put this book down! I’d heard so many good things about Emily’s books that I knew I had to read at least one before getting to meet her at the 2015 Cleveland Author Event.  The plot of Beautiful Outlaw is honestly what sucked me in first. This unique take on an abusive relationship helped build the emotional connection to Laura/Shay. She’s lived her life as a living doll to save her family. Her story is heart breaking from the very beginning. But, darkness doesn’t live long in her life and she’s able to find some semblance of happiness again. Bowie on the other hand is a bit of an enigma to me. As a former solider, life in the MC seems almost natural to him. He follows commands and executes his duties as commanded. He’s never let a woman break down his inner walls until the day he lays his eyes on Laura/Shay. She’s his dream woman, but she isn’t exactly the woman who comes begging to be rescued. They’ve both faced demons in their past and need something or someone to make sure their future is bright. The only thing I can say about Beautiful Outlaw is… Strap on your helmets, MC Romance fans, it’s going to be a crazy ride!
