Review: Grit by Margaret McHeyzer

Publication Date: 4/25/2015

Rating: 4 Stars

Official Blurb:

Jaeger Dalton wants the land that was promised to him.
Phoenix Ward isn't about to let anyone take Freedom Run away from her.
He’ll protect what’s his.
She’ll protect what’s hers.
Jaeger is an arrogant ass, but he wants nothing more than Phoenix.
Phoenix is stubborn and headstrong, and she wants Jaeger out of her life.
Her father lost the family farm to gambling debts, but Jaeger isn't the only one who has a claim to the property.
Sometimes it’s best to let things go.
But sometimes it’s better to fight until the very end.

This book was great! Grit definitely lives up to its name as it’s definitely a dirty and gritty read. Jaeger is a tough as nails, alpha male badass with a sex addiction. He needs sex with whoever is willing when and where he wants it. That is of course until a red headed beauty catches his eye. This woman has plagued him for years. A routine debt claim for the MC opens up the biggest can of worms between several very dangerous groups and guess who is in the middle of it, Red.  She is a stubborn as hell woman who will not go quietly in the clubhouse and lives to cause trouble for J. Yet, these two people couldn’t be more attracted to one another. Their ties are combustible and volatile. Just open they both make it out alive!

This standalone novel wraps up an entire MC series into one tightly written beauty. Everything you love about the MC world is there! My only complaint about this series was the ending seemed rushed to me. We skipped weeks and months ahead instead of giving us more character and plot development. I think with a bit of added information and additional scenes to break up the time jump, I would have been able to give this book a 5/5 stars.  It was a great ride and I look forward to more!

Review: One to Hold by Tia Louise

Publication Date: 10/7/2013

Series: One to Hold #1
Rating: 4 Stars

Official Blurb:

ONE TO HOLD is FREE on ALL Ebook Retailers!

Derek Alexander is a retired Marine, ex-cop, and the top investigator in his field. Melissa Jones is a small-town girl trying to escape her troubled past.

When the two intersect in a bar in Arizona, their sexual chemistry is off the charts. But what is revealed during their "one week stand" only complicates matters.

Because she'll do everything in her power to get away from the past, but he'll do everything he can to hold her.

A STAND-ALONE, ONE TO HOLD NOVEL. Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18. (M/F)

This my very first Tia Louise novel and oh holy cow! This novel is amazing. Melissa is a woman who needs time away to heal her soul. Her life is a train wreck of epic proportions and she needs major space to think. A chance trip to a desert spa oasis gives me more than just a relaxed mind and body. A chance meeting in the hotel bar leads to a different type of healing and quite frankly the best kind, sexual healing. A one week chance at happiness lands in her lap with business man Derek and she can’t take the chance fast enough.

One to Hold is what you would classify as a quick read. However, it doesn’t lack in sexual kindle melting chemistry or suspenseful romance. Both Derek and Melissa are holding on to dangerous, relationship breaking secrets. The sheer intensity of their relationships is charting topping hot. The ending alone is enough to keep you reading into Book #2. I can’t wait to dive into it!

I am completely overwhelmed. My core is on fire and I want so much to kiss him, to touch him. I feel sparks of electricity shoot through every fiber in my body and every nerve ending is screaming for release. I want his hands on me, all over me.

“Amare?”

I put my hands on his chest and push him away. He’s too close, making it hard to form a single thought. I take two steps to the side to put some distance between us so I can speak like a human, not a lust induced zombie. “Yes, they towed my car and it’s in their lot. I haven’t really spoken to them about it yet. I kind of fell asleep on them…”

His face clouds over and he says, “You kind of fell asleep on them? What. Does. That. Mean?” He pauses between each word and growls them at me.

“Jonas took me to see Doc Jordan and he gave me something for the pain, but because I hadn’t slept in days it made me sleepy. I think he ended up carrying me to their clubhouse.” I realize how all this must sound. If someone told me that exact same story, I would be thinking the worst.

“Did they touch you, Amare?” he growls at me, his eyes blazing with anger.

“No, no, no! In fact, Jonas put a guard on my door so no one would go near me. Not that they would. I was safe, Sal.” Something crosses his face and he stares at me so intently that I look away and stare at the floor. He moves back into my space and lifts my head up. “Thank you for getting me coffee. Let’s go have breakfast and I’m buying. I think I shall keep you in my sights to make sure nothing else happens to you. I have never met a woman who allows herself to get into so many dangerous situations, in such a short space in time. You, my Amare, are a handful.” He moves away from me and does up his shirt, then grabs his jacket. He opens the door to his room and extends his arm. “Shall we?” he asks, offering me a smile that reveals his dimple. My core clenches again and I have to fight the urge to throw myself at him.

As much as I loved Savage Stalker (Book #1), I think I love Savage Fire even more. Kathleen Kelly continues to mix genres as this series continues. Now, we are introduced to Salvatore, a crime family captain. In a chance meeting, he saves Emily, Dane's sister, on multiple occasions. Never before I have read a book that spans multiple genres written so well. Sal's Italian class and charm blends perfectly into Emily and Dane's world of dirty talking bikers. Each alpha male is a great representation of their various backgrounds, which I love because they don't blend into the same kind of moody, bossy, "you're going to do what they say" guy. I fell in love with Emily's character much quicker than I did with Kat. Emily faced a hard life after the death of her mother and taking care of her alcoholic cancer-ridden father on her own. She's had to face the world with so much weight on her shoudlers that she should be crumbled in the corner of a dark room shivering from fright rather than turning her grief and angry towards Dane and his abandonment of her as a small child. I don't think I can say it enough that I love this book as well as this series. I can't wait to see what comes next! Maybe Rebel's story!!!

Review: Blood, Pain, and Pleasure: A Tale of Blood and Magic Novel by Nadine Mutas

Publication Date: May 28, 2015
Series: Tales of Blood and Magic, #1
Rating: 5 Stars

Official Blurb:

When seduction weaves a spell more powerful than magic...

Desperate to save her demon-abducted sister, witch Merle MacKenna breaks the law of her Elders. As a last resort to track down the kidnapper, she unleashes another demon, Rhun, from the magical prison of the Shadows. Determined to bind him again after he helps her, Merle vows to keep him tightly controlled. Easier said than done when her own personal demon is hellbent on charming his way into her pants – and her heart.

After twenty years in the Shadows, bound for a crime he didn’t commit, Rhun is past caring about anyone but himself. The plan: Seduce the sexy witch, steal her powers, break the magical leash to her, and then be on his merry way. But when a heinous betrayal in the ranks of the witches forces Merle and Rhun to work even closer together, Rhun’s plan backfires – and the witch he meant to play gets under his skin. With his unbidden feelings for Merle vying with his need for freedom, he struggles with a bitter realization: Being a selfish bastard is a lot harder when love is involved.

Warning: Includes lots of witty banter and snarky humor, as well as a charmingly disrespectful demon hero who's hot enough to melt panties with a look.

There are so many reasons why I loved this book. First being, it was absolutely amazing. I enjoyed every second reading this. I had a hard time putting it down because I had to know what would happen next. I couldn’t wait to get to the end, but when I did, I was sad because it ended! Secondly, I really liked how the author put some humor into the book. There were times I busted out in laughter because of some of the things Rhun would say. Thirdly, Rhun. I freaking love him. He is what all women want. Hot, charming, witty, and of course, he’s an alpha male all the way. I really felt bad for him since he was sent to the shadows for something he didn’t do. My heart literally broke for him at times, but I knew he would always put a smile on my face later. Fourthly, Merle. I loved her character. She is a powerful witch and she wasn’t afraid to use that magic. Especially when it came to her sister. Merle was a strong character and at times I had no idea how she held it all together. Merle had went through some things herself and reading some of those things I had tears in my eyes. I felt her pain and I love when I am able to connect with a character like that. She was a breath of fresh air. Not only was she independent, she stood up for what she knew was right. I really loved her!

Lastly, even though there are tons more, the overall book was amazing. I worried being paranormal, and with all the things that were happening, I would get to much information at one time. This was not the case. The author wrote this book in a way were you don’t get information overload and in my opinion that shows how good she is at writing. Also, I loved the fact that her idea was unique in her own way and it was different than any other witch and demon novel I had read before. The author literally had me addicted and wanting more!

I will definitely keep my eye out for book two. I cannot wait to see what Nadine comes up with next!

Jettie Woodruff's And in Time Blog Tour

And in time…

Being single doesn't mean you have to be lonely. Alexis McKinley was a firm believer in that. She of all people knew that one didn't need a man. Being alone didn't mean she was available, or that she was weak. It meant that she was strong enough to go it alone. Riding solo was better than a false relationship where she had to be defined by someone else. Not Alexis. She was too resilient and proud for that. Love doesn't always show up looking like a fairy tale. Sometimes you don’t even have to be looking for it, sometimes it finds you. That’s exactly how it happened. Alexis wasn't searching, she didn't want it, and she failed…miserably. New in town, single, and Handsome Cory Baker caused her to neglect what had been imprinted for years, but how? Confined by carefully constructed walls kept her heart safe. Not only was she keeping the sadness out, but the joy as well.
And in time…

This book is so different from anything Jettie has ever written but in a wonderful way. If you believe in true love stories this is definitely the book for you. I was hooked from the very first chapter and could not wait to see what would happen between Alexis and Cory.

I love Alexis!!! She is super funny and a strong independent woman. Alexis believes she doesn’t need a man to satisfy her life and she is completely happy just being single. She has her loving family, her best friend, her sweet doggie, and her business to keep her life on track. Alexis wasn’t expecting Cory Baker but when he walked into her life everything changed in a way Alexis never saw coming.

I love Cory freaking Baker!!! AHHHHH he made me swoon almost the whole entire book!! There isn’t much I can say about Cory because there are lots of surprises in this book and I DO NOT want to spoil anything for anyone. Just know that Cory stole my heart and he is amazing for Alexis. He is just what she needed.

So many wonderful things happen in this book. I loved this story so much. It will melt your heart and other times have tears running down your face. I cannot wait to see what book 2 brings for Cory and Alexis. I have a feeling that Cory and Alexis are in for the ride of their lives!

Sacrifice by Adriana Locke Cover Reveal

Cover Design: K23 Design
 Release Date: July 13, 2015

Blurb

My life changed forever the night my husband died.

I was left with a shattered heart, a heap of bills, and our daughter, EVERLEIGH. I don’t want to rely on anyone, least of all CREW GENTRY. He’s my first love and the man who almost destroyed me, the man who has let me down every time I’ve needed him.

But when tragedy strikes a second time, Crew just might be my only hope.

My life changed forever the night my brother died.

I was left with a guilty conscience, a pile of mistakes, and little else. I take care of JULIA GENTRY, my brother’s widow and the love of my life, and their daughter. I know she doesn’t want my help, but she gets it anyway. I owe her that. When another disaster hits, I’m given the opportunity to make things right. I’m taking it. I'm willing to sacrifice it all.

Excerpt

“She’s been missing him a lot lately.”

Julia’s voice is barely a whisper and my chest constricts. Our conversations don’t normally make it to discussing Gage unless we’re already arguing. The fact that she just brought it up shocks me and I’m not comfortable with it. I don’t know how to take it. I feel my jaw pulse with frustration and scramble to change the subject again. “Why is it so chilly in here?”

Her smile disappears and she tugs her sweatshirt nervously. “I didn’t know it was.”

“How can you possibly not know?” I start to the thermostat across the room when she clears her throat.

“The heater isn’t working right. I asked Lane to come by and look at it earlier this week.”

“And he hasn’t been here yet?” I shoot her a look and she shakes her head. “He’ll be here tonight.” I dig my cell outta my pocket.

“Crew, don’t. Please. The last time you called my landlord he was a complete jerk to me for a couple of months. I just got on good terms with him again.”

I scroll through my contacts list, looking for his name.

“Crew ...” I know her doe-eyes are pleading with me. I also know if I look up at her, I’ll be somewhat inclined to give in. So I don’t.

Review: Back-Up Series by A.M. Madden

Publication Date: 9/1/2014

Rating: 5 Stars!!

Official Blurb:

Leila Marino’s biggest dream is to become a rock star. A lucky opportunity has her auditioning with an up & coming rock band named Devil’s Lair. The band hires Leila as their back-up singer, signing her up for months in the studio and touring on the road with the sexy bunch.

Jack is the quintessential rock star…gorgeous…sexy…a walking orgasm. Jack Lair is the lead singer of Devil’s Lair and his dreams are becoming reality as his band climbs the ladder of success. He’s living the perfect life, and enjoying every minute of it. With a steady stream of sexual conquests that satisfies his raging libido, he thinks he has all he needs in life…until Leila enters it. The series takes you on their journey, as well as their band mates and friends. The Back-Up Series is a true love story, rock star style.

As I continued my binge reading for the 2015 Cleveland author event, I stumbled across the Back Up Series Box Set by A.M. Madden. My co-blogger Nikki highly recommended the series so of course I had to read it! I've not read much in the rocker romance genre so I wasn't sure what to expect. Within the pages of these 3 books, I found myself sucked into the rocker sex God world.

Then Back Up series strummed a chord to my heart. This twisted and crazy musical thrill ride romance story kept me reading through the night and even at work the next day. You feel the tension between Jack and Leila from the very first page. Love doesn't come easy for these two characters after both being burned from a previous relationship. Leila is a very likeable female lead. Getting a chance at her shot to make it big, she's cautious of Jack's advances. Her career means everything to her and she doesn't want to muddy the waters by starting off with a romance scandal. She doesn't just jump into bed with him and I loved that about her.

Jack is a rocker bad boy. His band, Devil's Lair is gaining in popularity. Knowing they needed something to top their competition they decide to add a female back up singer. Leila instantly stuns him the moment she steps into the studio. She has it all in terms of the look and the voice. His heart along with his other brain goes into overdrive. He wants her, but can't or shouldn't have her. His resolve is about to be tested when they embark on their tour together. Close quarters, spending months together and their building attraction is going to kill him if he doesn't do something about it soon.

AM Madden, you have rocked my literary soul. This book series changed my mind about rocker novels. If Devil's Lair was a real band, I'd be fan girling just as much as I will when I meet you tomorrow!!!

Excerpt: The door flies open, slamming against the inside wall, and momentarily startling me. “What now!” At first, I’m caught off guard by her irate greeting, but as she stands frozen in the doorway, her eyes grow wide in surprise, and a blush shadows her ivory face. Damn. She’s beautiful. I have to bite my lip to stifle a grin. “I’m sorry. I thought you were somebody else.” Her tongue darts out and licks nervously at her lips. An intense desire to capture it between my teeth and slide it between my own lips spikes through me. Leaning casually against her doorframe, I cross my arms over my chest. “I heard something crash. Is everything okay?” Her shoulders drop slightly, and her hard eyes soften, meeting mine. “Yeah, everything’s fine. A friend made me angry, and I threw a vase at the wall.” This time I can’t hide my amusement. “You either have a very short fuse or an asshole for a friend.” The tension slips further from her shoulders, and she smiles at my remark. “It’s the latter.” Shit, so maybe model dude is her boyfriend. What am I doing here? I don’t have time in my life for shit like this, but I also can’t seem to make my feet walk away. “Well, I can promise I’m not an asshole, and I’m not doing anything tonight. Do you want to grab a drink?” She looks down at her watch and bites her bottom lip in contemplation, her hesitancy making me uneasy. “Come on, Green Eyes, it’s only nine o’clock.” Pathetic, I’m begging a girl I should be running from to have a drink with me. Those eyes instantly meet mine and are filled with a sudden shine that wasn’t there a minute ago. “Do you want to come in and watch American Ninja Warrior with me?” The request comes so quickly I almost miss it. In fact, the only part I understood was that she wants me to come inside her place. Hell yeah, I’m coming inside. But first, I need to know what we’re doing because at this moment, what my dick hears is ‘coming inside’ and it has its own idea as to what that means. Suddenly she’s laughing, and it’s awesome. Her entire face brightens, and her eyes twinkle like I’ve never seen. Her happiness is settling in my chest and making me grin at her like a damn schoolboy. “You have no idea what I’m talking about do you?” Her laughter subsides and leaves her with a smile that is . . . stunning. “No clue. Only that you asked me in, and yet, I’m still standing in your doorway.”
