Review: Silver Bastard by Joanna Wylde

Publication Date: 4/7/2015
Series: Silver Valley #1
Rating: 5 Stars

Official Blurb:

First in the new Silver Valley series from the New York Times bestselling author of the Reapers Motorcycle Club Novels

Fourteen months. For fourteen months, Puck Redhouse sat in a cell and kept his mouth shut, protecting the Silver Bastards MC from their enemies. Then he was free and it was time for his reward—full membership in the club, along with a party to celebrate. That’s when he saw Becca Jones for the first time and set everything in motion. Before the night ended he’d violated his parole and stolen her away from everything she knew.

Five years. It was five years ago that Puck destroyed Becca and saved her all in one night. She’s been terrified of him ever since, but she’s even more terrified of the monsters he still protects her from... But Becca refuses to let fear control her. She’s living her life and moving forward, until she gets a phone call from the past she can't ignore. She has to go back, and there’s only one man she can trust to go with her—the ex-con biker who rescued her once before.

Puck will help her again, but this time it’ll be on his terms. No more lies, no more tears, and no more holding back what he really wants...

This edition only: A new Silver Valley story

It was only a year ago that I broke into the MC Romance genre so you could say that I am a MC Romance prospect when it comes to the seasoned club members. Yet, I think that because I haven’t devoted my literary free time to this genre until now says something about the pull of literary power these books can have. Wylde has delivered some of my favorite MC books in the last year. I thought for sure that after reading Devil’s Game that she could never top that heartpounding sinful romance story. Yet, here I am, stunned in complete awe with the premise of Silver Bastard. I could of course like other reviewers dive into character development and plot twists, but I think I am going to take this review in another direction.  I simply just want to focus on the premise of the story and the emotions I had throughout the story. There are so many other reviewers out there that will focus on the characters that I want to give review readers something a little more than the normal review. Here we go!

Joanna Wylde has taken her sinful sexy and dangerous bikers and turned them into something a little bit more in Silver Bastard. The debut book in her new spin off series has set a dangerous & romantic tone for the rest of the novels of this series and set one hell of a high bar to beat. Wylde has really taken me back in a good way mind you with her unique story regarding Puck and Becca. Not often to do you see a story about a prospect in an MC novel other than the main characters sending the prospects to pick up beer and take the shit jobs around the clubhouse. The sheer fact she chose to highlight a prospect in the debut novel of a new series really sets a precedent with me about how good this series is going to be as it continues to grow.

Puck and Becca’s relationship is one that is FAR from conventional. I’m not about to give it away, but I’ll admit my stomach churned at the thought of what Puck was nearly forced into doing and the mental repercussions that both of these characters had to face as they matured. I would like to highlight that Joanna Wylde showcases a bit more of the dark side of the life within an MC and the corruption both mental and literal that can happen within its wall. Wylde also highlights the often hidden side of verbal abuse and the effects of this on a child’s future.

I would like to end my review with a simple thank you to Joanna Wylde. Thank you for the hours of enjoyment and sleepless nights that have come with your novels. You never take the easy way when it comes to your bikers and it’s one of the many things about your writing that I love. To the readers and fans of this series, Silver Bastard is a must read. Silver Bastard leaves you crying emotional mess that so hot and bothered you’ll feel like your melting. I highly recommend this author and ALL of her books!
