Review: Against the Darkness by A.M. Griffin

Publication Date: June 4, 2014
Series and Book number: Cimmerian Moon #1
Rating: 5 stars

Official Blurb:

This one time, at band camp…aliens invaded earth. Sounds like a bad riff on an old joke, doesn’t it? Unfortunately for me and my friends, it’s all too true. I thought a mess like this only happened in the movies but, as I watch the alien ships hovering over the major cities, I suddenly realize I’m a thousand miles away from my Mom. From home. From safety.

Darkness may have fallen over the world, but I won’t let it claim me. I’ll do anything I have to get back to Michigan. Yet nothing could prepare me for what we find on our trek north from Tallahassee. There’s hardly anything the aliens haven’t bombed. Survival, at any cost, is the name of the game for the few people who haven’t been killed or captured. As if trying to stay free and alive isn’t enough, I think I just met the love of my life. And he’s just the kind of bad boy who’ll tear down the walls I’ve built around my heart—then break it.

Could you survive an alien invasion? I feel if I was a character in this book or if it was real and so were the character, I might have a fighting chance.

I loved this book starting with the prologue. Sin and her friends are trying their hardest to make it back home, but it’s not an easy task. A lot happens along the way, and the death and destruction the alien’s have caused starts to take its toll on the group. Sin was my favorite character out of this book. I really enjoyed seeing her start out as a regular teenager, and then by the end she is so much more. She really grew up in such a sort amount of time, and she does a lot to help her friends. I also enjoyed seeing how the others in the group changed as well. They all could’ve given up at anytime, but they didn’t. They kept at it, going for their goal. The way the author wrote this book, made me think I was actually with the character, and I felt the emotions each were having. Not only did I get a clear picture of what earth would look like after an invasion, but I also have a new interest in aliens. That’s how awesome this book was. I want to read more and more just so I can find out what happens! Do they take back earth? How will they fight the aliens? So many questions and I can’t wait to find out the answers. This was a young adult novel, but I have to say, it’s by far the best young adult book I’ve read in a long time. I definitely suggest everyone go by this now!
