Series: The Devil’s Dust #2
Rating: 5 Stars

The Devil's Dust MC has a list of new threats to the club's lifestyle. Dani, to prove her loyalty, is trying to embrace a part of herself that she never knew existed until now. A sinful beast lurking beneath her surface has been awakened and is ready to eliminate anyone that stands in its way. Looking at her stained hands, she rinses the blood from them. She resigns herself to innocence lost and welcomes her thirst for more blood.

After a breathtaking turn of events, Shadow is looking at life in a different perspective. Not knowing who he can trust or who he can forgive has left him feeling desolate and alone. As Shadow is laying behind his rifle, he wonders if he can pull the trigger to eliminate the threat. He takes a deep breath and squeezes the trigger, the rifle recoil ignites the fuel that drives him.

Retaliations will be required.

Boundaries will be shattered.

Redemption will be lost.

Betrayal so deep, yet they still yearn for one another. Can Shadow overlook Dani’s transgressions? Can Dani overlook the mistrust that Shadow has placed upon her?

The Scars That Define Us continues the story of Shadow and Dani's rollercoaster romance amidst the bad biker boys and girls. Dani's mother betrayal proves in the last book that she isn't exactly as she seems and as thrown Dani to the wolves when it comes to her relationship with her dad Bull and the club. She's been falsely accused of her involvement into an investigation of the club. She knows the longer she stays away and hides the more guilty they will perceive her to have and will mark her for destruction. She's lost the clubs trust as well as Shadows. He throws up the barricades that she had worked so hard to break down because she wants to know more about the man she loves. She knows finding her way back to the only home she's ever truly known is going  to come at a high price, but is she really willingly to play the part of a badass biker chick and survive the end of the game, or will Shadow be painting a target on her head??

Shadow’s darkness has risen to an all-time high with Dani’s accused betrayal of both him and the club. He knows if the club decides to settle their business with her, he’ll be the one that has to pull the trigger. His self-inflicted self-destruction continues to spiral out of control, the only woman he wants warming his bed is an accused traitor to his club. He has to push down his feelings for her to stay true to the only thing that has never lied to him before, the club, but tell that to his heart that only wants Dani.

As I mentioned in my review of What Doesn't Destroy Us, I immediately started this book after finishing the first book of the series. What Doesn't Destroy Us truly sat me in the M.N. Forgy's bitch seat that I couldn't stop reading even though I started The Scars That Define Us at 4am knowing I had to be at work in a few hours because I had to know what happened to Dani and Shadow from the cliffhanger at the end of the first book. Holy hell did I get my answer. The emotions that I had speed reading through this book left me emotionally drained. I cried, laughed, felt the need to strangle Shadow at times, as well as happiness and contentment with the end of their story arc. My husband woke up in the middle of me reading this story during a particularly emotional scene and asked me if I took those emotional crazy pills before I went to bed because my emotional rollercoaster kept waking him up. Well buck up buttercup, my wild ride with the Devil's Dust isn't over yet!!!! Bring on Bobby!!!
