Review: Ravage Me by Ryan Michele

Publication Date: February 4, 2014
Series and Book: Ravage MC #1
Rating: 5 Stars

Official Blurb:

After spending the last two years stuck behind bars for a crime she didn’t commit, Harlow ‘Princess’ Gavelson’s time inside has finally come to an end, and she’s ready for revenge. Unfortunately, being the daughter to the Vice President of the Ravage Motorcycle Club cuts into her plans, as orders must be followed. Trying to settle back into this life is proving difficult when the tables are turned and the woman who framed her is out for blood. Lucky for Princess, growing up in a MC has taught her how to hold her own.

After spending years in hell overseas, Donavon ‘Cruz’ came home to lose the very thing he went into hell for, sending him to the darkest moments of his life. Joining Ravage two years ago was his safe haven, and he protects his family at all costs.

When a dark-haired bombshell struts into the club’s shop, he’s caught off guard but immediately knows she’s the one he’d do anything for. Tough as nails, and taking no crap from anyone, he’s captivated by a woman who could handle this life. Trying to meet the needs of the MC business and follow his heart proves to be difficult when the two collide, and lives are at stake.

Can these two find a way to be together, or will the needs of Ravage cost them everything, including their lives?

I normally don’t read too many MC books but I was talked into trying this series out. I was very shocked at how much I loved this book. Normally MC books mostly focus around the guys in the club and the lifestyle they live. Yes this book does focus on those things but we also get way more than I thought possible.

First off I love how this book was told from both Harlow and Cruz’s POV. Not only do we get a female version of the clue life but also an actual member of the club. Harlow aka Princess is by far one of my all-time favorite female characters. Yes she is girly in ways and respects the guys of the club but Princess is tough and doesn’t back down to anyone. Her first encounter back at the club after she was released from jail was pretty epic. Cruz had no idea what hit him. I knew right from that moment that not only was Cruz hooked on Harlow but she was also hooked on him. I love how she made a pack with Casey at a young age not to mess with club members but instantly could not stay away from Cruz.

There were times in this book I was sitting on the edge of my seat because of so many twists and turns. I loved Cruz too. He was always there for Harlow no matter what. Even though a lot of things were club business they both respected each other’s loyalty. One of my favorite characters in this book was Cruz’s son Cooper. Harlow never thought she would have a relationship with a brother much less take on the role as a mother all at the same time. I can’t wait to read the book and I already one clicked because I just can’t get enough.

Review: This Sky by Autumn Doughton

Publication Date: August 9, 2014
Rating: 5 Stars

Book Blurb:

Gemma Sayers has spent the last six days rotting in a hotel room, wallowing in a noxious combination of gin, junk food and self-pity. She’s no stranger to disappointment but nothing could have prepared her for the chaos that unfolded when her celebrity boyfriend publicly humiliated her. Now the fairytale is officially over and Gemma is determined to put the past behind her and strike out to find a new dream. Just a few teeny-tiny details to work out: she’s currently broke, homeless and unemployed. Landon Young has his own worries. Surfer by day and bartender by night, he doesn’t have the interest or the time to be anyone’s happily-ever-after. Weighed down by the memory of what happened two years ago, Landon can barely keep his head above water. This Sky is the thoughtful and often funny story about broken trust, an unexpected love and the hopes we keep sewn in the linings of our pockets.

First of all, I don't normally buy books based solely on the cover, but when I saw this book at a book signing, I knew I had to make it mine. The cover is absolutely gorgeous and brilliantly colored. Definitely an eye catcher for me.

I was actually fairly surprised with the way This Sky is written: it's actually more descriptive than it is narrative. You're thinking, "This book must be awful," right? Wrong. This book was actually very interesting and beautiful in so many ways.

Gemma Sayers and Landon Young are two very lost souls who have experienced hurt, betrayal, loss; both seem adrift alone in their feelings. Until they meet one day and things begin to change in their worlds. But is a no-strings relationship what they need, or will love find a way to bring them out of their inner turmoil and bring them into the sun?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book; it was much different than what I normally read, and that was refreshing to me. This Sky is like poetry, only not like poetry. The words from sentences, which form paragraphs, which forms a book. But the way it read was smooth like poetry. Like a song you hear on the radio. I've never called a book beautiful before, but This Sky is a beautiful book.

Review: Raw by Belle Aurora

Publication Date: 1/2/2014
Series: RAW Family #1
Rating: 5 Stars!!!!

Official Blurb:

Growing up the way I did, you’d think I’d be more screwed up than what I actually am.
Soon as I turned sixteen, I left that bump in the road I called home and took my chances on the street.

Best decision I ever made.

Now, at the age of twenty six, I’m educated, employed and damn good at my job.

My friends have become my family. Like me, they know what it’s like to grow up unloved.

But the saying is true.

The world makes way for those who know where they are going.

That’s me.

I know where I’m going and I’ll get there eventually. On my own terms and at my own pace.

But then there’s him.

I feel his eyes on me. I see him hiding in plain sight. He watches me.

He makes me feel.

It’s unconventional.

But it’s real.

I’m sure you’re wondering how a person falls in love with their stalker.

So am I.

This isn’t a story.

This is my life.

I don’t even know where to go with this review. This book left me literally heartbroken like I’d lost a real life member of my family. Raw honestly ruined me for reading for over 4 days now. When I even think about picking up another book, my heart just literally aches. This is not even close to a romantic story. Even the author stated that Twitch’s story is far from a romantic romp, but a twisted and demented love gone wrong kind of read.

Belle Aurora is known for her romantic, hearts, and butterfly kind of stories, but she has come completely out of left field on Raw. This book is likely the darkest book I’ve ever read. 99% of the book you get the feeling that maybe, just MAYBE, Twitch will be the bad boy turned knight in white shining armor, but oh hell no. The last 1% of the book will throw you into all 5 of the stages of grief in one single sentence.  I honestly cannot even fully review the book because readers need to experience the book for themselves. This is like a literary thrill ride, death defying rollercoaster that’s teetered to come off its track while you are going 180mph upside down and screaming.

For those of you that are curious by my review, I will just say that Alexa and Twitch are literally ying and yang embodied in the literary world. Their story is a honest look at how one instant in your life can give you hope and despair all at the same time. The past and your experiences can mold your future. The circumstances of your upbringing can always effect you even if you’ve escaped to a better life, and eventually life does catch up to you. Now… I’m going back to my book depression reading corner and cry some more.

Review: Trust (Running With Alphas Book 1) by Viola Rivard

Publication Date: August 10, 2014
Series: Running With Alphas
Rating: 4.5 Stars

Official Blurb:

On the run from the law, Taylor Michaels finds refuge among a secluded werewolf pack and in the arms of its two alphas, twin brothers Alder and Hale.

Trust is a very easy to follow and easy to read book. There aren’t any parts that bounce around leaving you thinking ‘hey, wait-what just happened?’. The scenes and events flowed together nicely; almost seamlessly. The majority of the book is told around Taylor’s POV, but there are parts that are told around Adler’s. Normally, I’m not big on switching the POV, but in this case, because of the way it’s written, I didn’t mind.

I liked Taylor from the beginning. She’s witty and slightly sarcastic with a bit of baggage, which makes for an interesting main character. She’s a damsel in distress, but not unable to care for herself. Some of her quirks and opinions are laughable, but all in all, she’s relatable.

Adler is a total hottie. A dominant Alpha male (hence the title of the book). I like how he keeps a lot of his wolfish mannerisms in his human form. He’s not just a guy that can shift into a wolf-he’s a guy that IS a wolf. His lack of understanding certain terms from the modern world is cute and comical as well.

I expected a lot more ‘bedroom action’, if you will, from the beginning. You know the drill- pretty girl meets sexy guy and most of the story is about all of their ‘I want you, I need you, oh baby’ moments. This story has that, but it’s not all about that. Which, let’s be honest, is rather refreshing. It makes those steamy moments all the more enjoyable.

The ending came a lot sooner that I was anticipating. Not because it’s too short of a book, but because it’s so easy to read and lose track of time. I have been left with questions that need to be answered. Now. But isn’t that what every good book does? Draws you in and leaves you wanting more? I think so. “Honesty” is the next book in this series and I’m honestly about to go buy it so I can continue this story.

Review: Kevlar to My Vest by Lani Lynn Vale

Publication Date: December 31, 2014
Rating: 4.5 Stars

 Book Blurb:

You’re the Kevlar…

Behind the badge and the pretty face was a heart. A heart that bled just like the rest. A heart that was so in love with Viddy Sheffield that it was humiliating. Trance had been burned before by a woman that couldn’t handle the fact that he risked his life each and every time he went on shift. She was too vulnerable; somehow he had to convince his heart to let her go. His life would chew her up and spit her out.

To My…

Viddy couldn’t get the man out of her head. Just the thought of Trance put a smile on her face. And when he walked into the same room? Words couldn’t explain. God help her, but she was even in a relationship with another man. She shouldn’t be thinking about the sexy biker with the voice that made shivers dance down her spine.

Then the unthinkable happens, and the sexy cop she can’t stop thinking about is there for her, giving her what she never knew she needed. One moment in time, and she finds herself falling for the man, lock, stock, and barrel. The two of them have a lot of work to do to make this relationship succeed. What they didn't know, however, was that there were people behind the scenes that were working to keep them apart. Sometimes the saying is true. You can’t always have what you want.

****I was given a copy by the author in exchange for my honest review. I came into this series a little late, as this is the first one that I have read by the author. There are characters in this particular book that you have met in the first two, but I could classify Kevlar To My Vest as a standalone, reading the other books isn't necessary, but it helps if you have read the other two. I give this book a 4.5 star review****

Vidalia "Viddy" Sheffield is a special education teacher trying to live her life like any normal person. Except for the fact that she's not so normal. She's pretty extraordinary. When Viddy was just 16 years old, an accident claimed her vision, but she doesn't let it get her down. She doesn't let anyone give her special treatment, not even when a sexy cop manages his way into her heart.

Killian Red (Trance) Spurlock is a police officer. But not just any police officer; he's one half of a K-9 unit. His other half is a German shepherd named, Radar. The really interesting thing about Trance is that not only his he a cop, but he's also a member of the Dixie Wardens MC.

This was a really interesting book in that the author did her homework on police procedure, codes, and policies--making the book extremely believable in regards to Trance's job. I was extremely surprised by how much detail the author put into a routine well check, it really felt like Trance was a real cop, doing something that real cops do. She was very quick to point out what certain things meant: "pieing a room" I had no idea what that meant, but I didn't even need to ask Google, Ms. Vale did that for you.

I was also pleasantly surprised to find that Ms. Vale also knew her stuff when it came to blindness and the type of blindness that Viddy had. She broke it down for the reader and simplified it so that we didn't have to consult a dictionary or Google to figure out what was going on with Viddy. I don't typically like when authors don't break things down and explain certain medical maladies for the reader, just expect them to know what you're talking about.

What I had a harder time believing is that Trance is a cop and in a motorcycle club. Most of the MC books that I have read, and I have read a lot of them, the members are hardcore guys who have done time for various crimes. They own bars, tattoo shops, etc. They have never been cops. So this idea that Trance being a cop and in an MC was harder for me to believe.

There were also a lot of editing issues: misspelled words, missing words, run-on sentences, grammar problems, etc. Some of the research was a bit underdeveloped that a beta reader could have pointed out before the book went to print. But honestly, I really liked this book a lot and I will definitely be reading more from this author, and I definitely will be reading more from this series. Just look past the editing issues and get lost in this book, it was hard for me to put down. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to enjoy a great story.

Bitter Sweet Deception Release Blitz

WARNING***  This novella is intended for those 18+ of age and contains strong language, sexual content, and adult situations.

The Kingsmen M.C's saga continues in this newest installment of Tara Oakes' tantalizing new series. In the first three novella's you've come to know and love the characters within the club. Jay and Lil's have had their epic love story play out over the pages of "A Lil' Less Broken", followed by "A Lil' Less Lost" and finally, "A Lil' Less Hopeless". While their fairytale is far from over, the next arc in the series concentrates on some of the other intriguing characters that have been woven throughout Jay and Lil's storyline.  The question on everyone's mind is.... WHO IS CHARLIE? And what is she hiding?  Planting herself deep within the club's inner circle, Charlie came to Chisolm with one goal in mind... to destroy the Kingsmen, M.C., no matter the personal cost. An unknown hatred fuels her mission to take them down. Pairing herself up with one of the club's bad boy's, the M.C.'s enforcer, Clink, seemed like just the ticket to get her in the door.  Once inside the club she had been eyeing from afar, she comes to realizes things are very different from what she had imagined them to be. Villainizing the group as a whole for an injustice that was done to her many years earlier no longer seemed to fit with growing attachments and relationships she was forming.  And then there's Clink. He may very well be the wild card thrown into the mix that derailed Charlie's plans from the get go. Originally, serving as nothing but a way in to the club, and a body to warm her sheets at night, Clink has thrown Charlie for a loop. Determined from an early age to never need a man, Charlie can't help but find herself drawn to him in a carnal and ethereal way. She's tried to fight it, to deny it, but it was in vain. He calls her sugar... but, she's anything but sweet. A chance twist of luck placed Charlie right in the middle of club politics, where she was able to help free the club's Vice President, Jay, from serving time for murder he did not commit, but willingly confessed to in Book 2. Her risk earned her the hard earned respect and admiration that is hard to come by in the world of the M.C.  Now that she finally has a place of her own in life, a place where she belongs and is wanted... is she willing to give it up? Give Him up? Willing to let it all slip through her fingers? Find out in Book 4 of Tara Oakes' Kingsmen M.C. series, "Bitter Sweet Deception"

There will be a few giveaways and several takeovers! You can join here:

With the story surrounding the main characters of the previous novels in the series finished, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect moving into Bitter Sweet Deception. Jay and Lil’s story made me instantly  love this series so moving into Clink and Charlie I was a little unnerved as to how the series would continue. Tara Oakes as displayed her marvelous ability as an author to be versatile in her series when it comes to weaving various characters story into a cohesive story.

Clink and Charlie’s story was simply breathtakingly beautiful. Yet, there love is wrapped in shroud of mystery when it comes to who exactly Charlie is and how she fits into the club dynamic. The reveal of her parentage was something I did not see coming at all and that takes a lot to do as I am not easily mislead. This plot twist reveal will cause just enough problems to change her relationship with many characters in the series.

The cliffhanger ending will leave you speechless and instantly online searching for the release of the next book.  The driving plot will make Bitter Sweet Deception the kind of book you won’t be able to put down. I cannot wait until Charlie and Clink’s story continues to find out the repercussions of the big reveal!

Review: Poison Study by Maria V. Snider

Publication: 3-1-07
Series: Study Series
Rating: 4 poison laced Cherries

Choose: A quick deathOr slow poison...

About to be executed for murder, Yelena is offered an extraordinary reprieve. She'll eat the best meals, have rooms in the palaceand risk assassination by anyone trying to kill the Commander of Ixia.

And so Yelena chooses to become a food taster. But the chief of security, leaving nothing to chance, deliberately feeds her Butterfly's Dustand only by appearing for her daily antidote will she delay an agonizing death from the poison.

As Yelena tries to escape her new dilemma, disasters keep mounting. Rebels plot to seize Ixia and Yelena develops magical powers she can't control. Her life is threatened again and choices must be made. But this time the outcomes aren't so clear...

Every once in a while I take a delightful journey into the young adult realm with books like this. Poison Study was a book I stumbled across in a listopia list on goodreads and I am happy I did. This is a paranormal fantasy/adventure set in the fictional feudal world or Ixia. We first meet the heroine Yelena in the palace dungeon awaiting execution for murder.  A twist of fate ends up saving Yelena from the noose by putting her in even more danger as the military commanders food taster. This coming of age story takes us on a magic and mystery filled adventure fraught with dangers unknown.  Along the way Yelena makes friends she never thought she would get the chance to have. Is betrayed by others she thought were true and maybe even finds love in the most unlikely of places.  I really enjoyed this story and would recommend it for girls over the age of 12ish.  While I have read multiple complaints from reviewers that this could be better if it where a steamier new adult book, I didn't mind it being fairly clean.  There is one sexual situation that is handled in a very tasteful manner as well as sexual innuendos that may make some parents uncomfortable.  I always suggest parents read books in advance of their children. This is a great way to filter out books that you may not feel are appropriate and be prepared for any issues that might arise from questionable content.  I hope like me you take a chance on this young adult read and get carried away by Yelena's journey.

Her favorite books to read are mystery, thrillers, horror, romance, erotica and urban fantasy.

Review: Pawn: Volume 2 by Maya St James

Publication Date: February 17, 2015
Series: Book 2
Rating: 5 Stars

Official Blurb:

“My motivation is simple. Greed. I want to possess you, want to fuck you speechless, want everything about you. I’m not broken. I’m nothing you’re trying to make me out to be, so unless the next words out of your mouth are ‘Fuck me, Graham,’ we’re done here. Your move, Ms. Courtney.”

That’s what the stranger I’ve agreed to crawl into bed with told me when I confronted him for betraying me. Five months. I’ve given Senator Graham Delaney permission to possess my body for five months, and I know nothing about him except that he’s manipulated me and that his dirty mouth and demanding hands set my skin on fire, leaving me writhing for more. My wickedly handsome lover is all lies and desire and secrets—all bundled up in a well-fitted suit and a grin that won over millions—and I’m determined to figure him out.

To possess him.

After all, I have four and a half months left. And I’m already getting under his skin.

My move indeed, Senator Delaney.

Volume 2 of a 3 part serial. WARNING: The pages of this novella contain filthy words and naughty situations. Reader discretion advised.

Just when I thought things couldn’t get any better with Graham and Elle. I was completely blown away with this book. I literally read it in one sitting because I could not put it down. This book deserves all 5 Stars!!!

When Volume 1 ended I couldn’t wait until Volume 2 was out. Maya left me with such a cliff hanger I wanted to throw my kindle. Elle finds out Graham lied to her and made her lose her job. But if you only knew how much he is really playing her. Have you ever loved and hated a character at the same time?? Well this is exactly how I feel about Senator Sexy-Ass aka Graham. There are sometimes I really want to slap him but other times I can see his sensitive side coming out.

I love how the overall story also plays into Graham and Elle’s relationship. There is tons of history with Graham’s past and Elle has no idea she is actually his pawn is this game. I am actually rooting for her dad to get what is coming to him because I do not like him at all. I don’t like spoilers so let me just say this book is hot and the batter between Graham and Elle is very funny. I love how Graham keeps denying Elle but yet he is only torturing himself in the long run.

This book also left me completely hanging and I wanted to scream NO!! I can only hope that Graham turns out to be a better man. I kind of love to hate him. How can you not love his dirty mouth? I can’t wait to see how the story plays out with Graham and Elle. I am crossing my fingers for a HEA. Be warned while reading Graham has a way of melting the pages right off your kindle.

"I’d sold my soul a long fucking time ago." ~ Kick (Relent)

Evie Bishop grew up loving Kick Hanson. He loved her, too. They were inseparable. Best friends who looked out for each other. Until the day scandal hit their families and ripped everything apart, changing the course of all their lives.

Kick follows a dangerous path that leads him to the Storm MC where he spends his days buried deep in a violent and lawless world that is slowly consuming his soul. Evie works hard to escape the hopelessness that threatens to swallow her after her family is ripped apart. She builds a stable life for herself, however it's devoid of the one thing she has always longed for - Kick.

The love these two have for each other never wavers but sometimes in life, love isn't enough. Even in the times they find each other again, they can never make it work. Kick fights against bringing Evie into his world and Evie refuses a life with Kick if he won't fully commit to her. However, when circumstance throws them together again, Kick knows he must finally make her his. The trouble is, Evie's done. She loves him but she believes their chance to be together has long passed.

When Kick finally stakes his claim, will Evie relent and give their love another go, or has Kick left it too long to go after the woman who has owned his heart forever?

Kick grinned and came towards me, his hands reaching for the button on my jeans. I slapped his hand away. “No,” I said firmly, giving him the evil eye. “You’ve had your fill this morning and I’m all out of orgasms.”
He smirked. “Baby, you are never out of orgasms.”
I raised my brows, trying to look stern. “I am today.”
Crossing his arms over his chest, he said, “So you’ve got a dentist appointment and then what?”
“Then I’ve got work. Why?”
“I’m just trying to figure out how long until I can get my dick out again.” When I smirked, he added, “You don’t seem to realise just what you do to me, Evie.”
I put my hand on my hip, settling in to hear this. “Tell me, Kick, what do I do to you?”
He uncrossed his arms and took the few strides separating us. “You cause an insatiable fuckin’ need in me that I’ve never experienced before. Even if I fucked you all day long, I’d still never get enough.”
Oh god.
My core clenched.
Maybe I did have more orgasms in me today.
He traced my lips and then cupped my cheek before kissing me. “I’m taking you to your appointment and then to work, and then I’m picking you up from work and taking you back to my house. Today we play my way. With my toys,” he growled, and I felt his growl all the way through my body.
