Tour: Shadow Fire by Kimber Leigh Wheaton

While reading Shadow Fire, I couldn’t help but visualize a World of Warcraft like world. Kimber has created a fantasy world that readers will be able to readily visual. At times, the creatures of Ashlyn’s world would be things you’d imagine seeing walking down the streets of San Diego on the way to Comic Con. The otherworldly creatures come in all shapes and size. The sheer fact that Kimber has created rabid bunnies made me laugh out loud as I pictured the evil bunny from Monty Python’s Holy Grail. Creatures aside, Shadow Fire is a stunningly beautiful yet dark novel.

Ashlyn’s world is full of darkest and danger. She is selected to embark on a mission to save the world. She is tasked with finding a mythical goddess statue that will bring prosperity back to the embattled land. Her mercenary protector Zane knows he has to join her on the mission because he cannot see someone has beautiful and strong as Ashlyn succumb to the dangers that her predecessors never returned.

This story has so many twists and turns. Just when you think “Oh damn, that’s where she’s going with this” BAM completely different outcome. Ashlyn and Zane’s journey isn’t an easy one especially with the various secrets and discoveries they find on their way. Zane will do whatever it takes to protect her yet knows he’s destined to follow her on her mission. I will say that their relationship development did feel a little rushed. Their love story had almost no build-up to beginning of their romance. I would have liked a little bit more relationship development to make their love a little more believable.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. As I read throughout it, I felt as if Shadow Fire was Hunger Games, World of War Craft and Harry Potter wrapped into one tightly well written bundle. Move over Katniss and Peeta, Ashlyn and Zane are here to save the day.
