The Hollows Final Book Countdown Day 4

#4 A Fistful of Charms

Official Blurb:

The evil night things that prowl Cincinnati despise witch and bounty hunter Rachel Morgan. Her new reputation for the dark arts is turning human and undead heads alike with the intent to possess, bed, and kill her -- not necessarily in that order.

Now a mortal lover who abandoned Rachel has returned, haunted by his secret past. And there are those who covet what Nick possesses -- savage beasts willing to destroy the Hollows and everyone in it if necessary.

Forced to keep a low profile or eternally suffer the wrath of a vengeful demon, Rachel must nevertheless act quickly. For the pack is gathering for the first time in millennia to ravage and to rule. And suddenly more than Rachel's soul is at stake.

Review: Binding the Shadows by Jenn Bennett

Publication Date: 5/28/2014
Series: Arcadia Bell Series #3
Rating: 4 Stars

Official Blurb:

In the third book in this beloved and “riveting” (Romantic Times) urban fantasy series, demon-friendly tiki bar owner Arcadia Bell discovers more about her own evolving, and possibly destructive, magical abilities when her bar is the target of a demonic crime wave.

Renegade mage and bartender Arcadia Bell has had a rough year, but now the door to her already unstable world is unhinging. When a citywide crime wave erupts, Cady's demon-friendly tiki bar is robbed by Earthbounds wielding surreal demonic abilities that just flat-out shouldn't exist. With the help of her devilishly delicious boyfriend, Lon Butler, Cady sets out to find the people who wronged her—but her targets aren't the only ones experiencing unnatural metamorphoses. Can Cady track down the monsters responsible before the monster inside herdestroys everything—and everyone—she loves? If she survives this adventure, one thing is certain: it's last call for life as she knows it

O.m.g… I think my Nook  melted while reading Binding the Shadows!!! It’s almost automatic for me to just know that with each book the series will trump how good the previous book was. I cannot say this enough. The Arcadia Bells series is by far one of the best Urban Fantasy series I’ve ever had the pleasure reading. One of the best things going for this series is that the power couple is a solidified family unit. I love drama between couples in a great story, but AB’s steady and secured family life is almost a breath of fresh air for me. Cady and Lon’s life are complicated enough with the happenings of the outside world. Especially in BTS, Lon’s ex mother and sister-in-law pay their yearly family visit along with a surprise visitor. Cady’s power base continues to expand. I will say this.. the ending cliff hanger.. I DID NOT see that coming at all. I honestly just stared at my nook in frustration because Cady’s story was about to go bat shit crazy. Going into the final book of the series, I am quite curious as to how Jenn Bennett will wrap up her story. Bennett knows how to pack the punches and leave the reader in shock and awe. Come on book #4!!!!

The Hollows Final Book Countdown Day 3

Review: Leashing the Tempest by Jenn Bennett

Publication Date: 4/24/2012
Series: Arcadia Bell Series #2.5
Rating: 4 Stars

Official Blurb:

Dating a demon, defeating evil, running a tiki bar: Arcadia Bell is a great occult mage in many respects. But then there’s the challenge of her boyfriend’s precocious teenage son…

Arcadia "Cady" Bell may have saved the Hellfire Club’s children from a local bogeyman, but she and her Earthbound demon boyfriend, Lon Butler, now face a more disturbing problem: his teenage son’s new demonic abilities. Jupe Butler can persuade you to do anything—or so he thinks. To test the limits of his newfound power, Cady invites the co-owner of Tambuku Tiki Lounge to be the teen’s guinea pig during an afternoon boat cruise. But when an angry storm whips the Pacific into a frenzy and Jupe puts them all in serious danger, will Cady's magick trump a teenager’s excess confidence?

Dating a demon may be easy for Cady, but dating a demon with a very mischievous teenage son isn’t exactly a walk in the park. Cady and Lon want to take a relaxing afternoon and spend time with their newly formed family after the events of the last book. While a sea cruise would see relaxing too many of us, Cady and Lon find out that it isn’t exactly the pleasure cruise they were hoping for. Jupe’s teenage attitude and gift sets them adrift and in the path of a dangerous storm. Not to mention the fact, the ship and its captain have some dangerous secrets of their own lurking into the hauls of the yacht.

While a short novella, Leashing the Tempest, still brings the action pack punch to the Arcadia Bell Series. It showcases that even when someone has the best intentions life has a funny way of shaking up the mix to keep you on your toes. I loved this short story as it showcases how close Lon and Cady are becoming and just how much trouble Jupe will be causing as he learns to master his newly found gifts. It packs a little more light and fun than the previous novels, but also packs a punch when it comes to danger and intrigue. It’s a fun little read that will you craving more!!!

Review: Summoning the Night by Jenn Bennett

Publication Date: 4/24/2012
Series: Arcadia Bell Series #2
Rating: 4 Stars

Official Blurb:

After narrowly escaping her fate as a sacrificial scapegoat, Arcadia Bell is back to normal. Or at least as ordinary as life can be for a renegade magician and owner of a tiki bar that caters to Earthbound demons. She's gearing up for the busiest day of the year—Halloween—when a vengeful kidnapper paralyzes the community. The influential head of the local Hellfire Club taps Cady to track down the fiendish bogeyman, and now that she's dating red-hot Lon Butler, the Club's wayward son, she can hardly say no.

Cady and Lon untangle a gruesome thirty-year trail of clues that points to danger for the club members' children. But locating the person behind the terror will require some metaphysical help from Cady's loyal bar patrons as well as her potent new Moonchild powers—and she'd better figure it out before the final victim disappears and her own darkest secret becomes her biggest enemy.

This series just keeps getting better and better!!!! Cady and Lon are back into the thick of the drama and mystery of the demon world. Cady knows just how special she really is and knows keeping her real identity a secret is even more crucial than before. She’s working on controlling her budding new abilities while balancing out the new family life she has with Lon and Jupe. When an unsolved mystery of missing children comes back to haunt them, Cady and Lon must stop at nothing to find the kidnapper and protect Jupe.

Cady and Lon’s relationship continues to blossom, but doesn’t take up too much on screen camera time as it did in the first. While I do love a good love story, the Arcadia Bell series is purely UF. I do love a good PNR, but when the story is written as magically as Bennett has created in this series. Who needs steamy romance when the story is this good anyway!!! Bennett also has the ability to create these amazing one line zingers. I highlighted so many throughout reading this novel that I can’t share them all here, but this one stuck out to me.

“Oh, really? Is that why he’s hot and bothered for Arcadia here?” Kar Yee tossed an accusatory glance my way. She was well aware that honesty wasn’t one of my strong suits. “Probably,” Jupe confirmed. “My dad says he likes her so much that if she kicked him in the balls, he’d just thank her.”

Bennett continues to deliver on her new debut series. It’s imaginative and enticing. Its one of those books that will suck you in and leave you pissed its over too soon. On to the next book, a novella, entitled, Leashing the Tempest.

The Hollows Final Book Release Countdown

Starting today, I will be posting one book from Kim Harrison's Hollows Series. The 13th and final book of The Hollows will release on 9/9/2014.

#1 Dead Witch Walking

Official Blurb:

All the creatures of the night gather in "the Hollows" of Cincinnati, to hide, to prowl, to party ... and to feed.
Vampires rule the darkness in a predator-eat-predator world rife with dangers beyond imagining -- and it's Rachel Morgan's job to keep that world civilized.
A bounty hunter and witch with serious sex appeal and an attitude, she'll bring 'em back alive, dead ... or undead.

Review: Kindling the Moon by Jenn Bennett

Publication Date: 6/22/2011
Series: Arcadia Bell Series #1
Rating: 4 Stars

Official Blurb:

Meet Arcadia Bell: bartender, renegade magician, fugitive from the law. . . .

Being the spawn of two infamous occultists (and alleged murderers) isn’t easy, but freewheeling magician Arcadia “Cady” Bell knows how to make the best of a crummy situation. After hiding out for seven years, she’s carved an incognito niche for herself slinging drinks at the demon-friendly Tambuku Tiki Lounge.

But she receives an ultimatum when unexpected surveillance footage of her notorious parents surfaces: either prove their innocence or surrender herself. Unfortunately, the only witness to the crimes was an elusive Æthyric demon, and Cady has no idea how to find it. She teams up with Lon Butler, an enigmatic demonologist with a special talent for sexual spells and an arcane library of priceless stolen grimoires. Their research soon escalates into a storm of conflict involving missing police evidence, the decadent Hellfire Club, a ruthless bounty hunter, and a powerful occult society that operates way outside the law. If Cady can’t clear her family name soon, she’ll be forced to sacrifice her own life . . . and no amount of running will save her this time.

Kindling the Moon is simply spell binding!!! Bennett brings a fresh, exciting new story to the UF world. The character personalities and world is exciting and full of twists and turns. Arcadia Bell is a kick-ass heroine. Take all the best qualities of the heroines you love and you’ve got Cady. Cady’s swearing cracks me up at times. My favorite of those being “Oh, holy Whore of Babylon”. She’s perfectly balanced when it comes to both putting her game face on in the presence of danger and being witty and funny during those non-dangerous times. I love the fact that Lon, the romantic interest for Cady, comes with baggage (a kid) and his older than her. First off, what leading male character in UF ever has a mustache! A badass goatee maybe, but a mustache is so damn unique when it comes to the typical hard body, dominating males you usually find in UF novels. Lon’s son, Jupe, provides much of the comic relief in this debut novel. He’s a smooth little operator at his age, and as he grows up will sure to continue to bring a bit of fun to the story. This debut novel is just the beginning for what I can only imagine is an awesome UF series to come!

          Jenna's point of view
“Want a taste of my delicious beef?” His lips curled up into a sexy smirk.
I knew he meant the beef stew, but I knew there was a double meaning behind what he was asking me. Before I could say a word he placed his finger in my mouth and let it slowly slide out.
“You’re a great cook,” I commented, letting my tongue seductively glide across my lips while savoring the taste of the sauce.
“I’m good at lots of things,” he said as if matter of fact, watching my tongue move across my lips again.
“Aren’t we confident?” I said, leaning back just a tad back to push my breast toward him. I wanted Max to touch me.
“Arrogant,” he said. “I can be very arrogant. And I am very damn good at making Jenna feel good.”
Suddenly Max dabbed a splat of sauce on my neck. “I think I’ll try some Jenna sauce.” Oh God! His tongue was working perfectly on that spot on my neck. My breath heaved and quickened when he dripped some more sauce between my breasts.
