Upcoming New Releases: A Shiver of Light by Laurell K. Hamilton

Publication Date: 6/3/2014
Series: Meredith Gentry #9
Author: Laurell K. Hamilton

Official Blurb:
I am Princess Meredith NicEssus. Legal name Meredith Gentry, because “Princess” looks so pretentious on a driver’s license. I was the first faerie princess born on American soil, but I wouldn't be the only one for much longer...

Merry Gentry, ex–private detective, now full-time princess, knew she was descended from fertility goddesses, but when she learned she was about to have triplets, she began to understand what that might mean. Infertility has plagued the high ranks of faerie for centuries. Now nobles of both courts of faerie are coming to court Merry and her men, at their home in exile in the Western Lands of Los Angeles, because they will do anything to have babies of their own.

Taranis, King of Light and Illusion, is a more dangerous problem. He tried to seduce Merry and, failing that, raped her. He’s using the human courts to sue for visitation rights, claiming that one of the babies is his. And though Merry knows she was already pregnant when he took her, she can’t prove it.

To save herself and her babies from Taranis she will use the most dangerous powers in all of faerie: a god of death, a warrior known as the Darkness, the Killing Frost, and a king of nightmares. They are her lovers, and her dearest loves, and they will face down the might of the high courts of faerie—while trying to keep the war from spreading to innocent humans in Los Angeles, who are in danger of becoming collateral damage.Links:

Book Boyfriend Smackdown Round 10!

Trent vs. Eric

Trent Kalmack – The Hollows Series by Kim Harrison

His hands grabbed my shoulders firmly and yanked me across the few feet that separated us.

“Trent, you, mmmph,” I managed to get out as he stole a kiss, a wild, wonderful, passionate kiss.

His lips were heavy on mine, an erotic mix of demand and softness. My hands against his shoulders were set to push him back, but I couldn’t, shocked at the sudden surge of desire that burst from my core, flaring through me like flash paper. Eyes closed, my back hit the counter.Emotion vibrated up through me. My hands clenched on him and my eyes opened. Heart thudding in my chest, I shoved him back and away. Oh God, it was a fabulous kiss. I could hardly think.” ― Kim Harrison, The Undead Pool

Eric Northman – Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris

"Eric was holding my hands, and I was digging my nails into him like we were doing something else. He won't mind, I though, as I realized I'd drawn blood. And sure enough, he didn't. "Let go," he advised me, and I loosened my grip on his hands. "No, not of me," he said smiling. "You can hold on to me as long as you want." — Charlaine Harris (Club Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, #3))

Gameboard of the Gods introduced religious investigator Justin March and Mae Koskinen, the beautiful supersoldier assigned to protect him. Together they have been charged with investigating reports of the supernatural and the return of the gods, both inside the Republic of United North America and out. With this highly classified knowledge comes a shocking revelation: Not only are the gods vying for human control, but the elect—special humans marked by the divine—are turning against one another in bloody fashion.

Their mission takes a new twist when they are assigned to a diplomatic delegation headed by Lucian Darling, Justin’s old friend and rival, going into Arcadia, the RUNA’s dangerous neighboring country. Here, in a society where women are commodities and religion is intertwined with government, Justin discovers powerful forces at work, even as he struggles to come to terms with his own reluctantly acquired deity.

Meanwhile, Mae—grudgingly posing as Justin’s concubine—has a secret mission of her own: finding the illegitimate niece her family smuggled away years ago. But with Justin and Mae resisting the resurgence of the gods in Arcadia, a reporter’s connection with someone close to Justin back home threatens to expose their mission—and with it the divine forces the government is determined to keep secret.

Book Boyfriend Smackdown Round 9!

Bryn Lyons vs. Jace

Bryn Lyons – Southern Witch Series by Kimberly Frost

"I’m going to consult some witches’ books. Not that I have many here to consult. But I’m not going to Bryn’s house. I’ve made it twelve whole days without sleeping with him, and no scary skeleton in a tree is going to send me to Seduction Central now that Bryn’s big case is finally over."

"We’re not going to get carried away. If anything, you’re in trouble with me.”

“Am I?” he asked.

“I’ve warned you a bunch of times to stop doing things to make me fall more in love with you, but you just don’t listen.”

He smiled. “Yeah, me treating you well, it’s a problem." — Kimberly Frost (Slightly Spellbound (Southern Witch, #4))

Jace Lightwood – Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare

But isn't that what love is, Clarissa? Ownership? 'I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine,' as the Song of Songs goes." "No. And don't quote the Bible at me. I don't think you get it...It's not just that someone
belongs to you, it's that you give yourself to them. I doubt you've ever given anything to anyone. Except maybe nightmares."

"To give yourself to someone?" The thin smile didn't waver. "As you've given yourself to Jonathan?"

"You think I haven't seen the way you two look at each other? The way he says your name? You may not think I can feel, but that doesn't mean I can't see feelings in others.”

― Cassandra Clare, City of Ashes

Kayden Knox vs. Reyes Farrow

Kayden Knox – Savannah Series by Danielle Jaime

"For the first time in a very long time Savannah, I feel speechless. Just looking at you makes my mind go haywire. I'm incapable of finding the right words to say to try and explain what I'm feeling right now. Its as if all common sense flew out the doorthe minute I saw you dancing on my bar tonight. At that moment I knew I would do anything, say anything to get you beneath me and have the pleasure of seeing that sexual satisfaction on your face. Knowing I put it there and that only I am capable of making you look this way...Its over-whelming to say the least”

Reyes Farrow – Charley Davidson Series by Darynda Jones

“How would you like your eggs?" I tried. I really did. But I glanced at his crotch and it came out anyway. "Fertilized?” ― Darynda Jones, Fifth Grave Past the Light

What do you want?" "You," he said, his voice lowering an octave. "I want you, Dutch, body and soul. I want you in my bed every night. I want you there when I wake up in the morning. I want your clothes
strung across my apartment and your scent on my skin.” ― Darynda Jones, Fifth Grave Past the Light

ARC Review: Memory Zero by Keri Arthur

Series: Spook Squad #1
Publication: 8/26/2014 (first time release in U.S.)
Rating: 4.5 stars
Official Blurb:

For Sam Ryan, life began at age fourteen. She has no memory of her parents or her childhood. In a decade of service with the State Police, Sam has exhausted the resources of the force searching for clues to her identity. But all mention of her family seems to have been deliberately wiped off the record. Everything changes the night Sam’s missing partner resurfaces as a vampire . . . and forces her to kill him in self-defense. Now Sam is charged with murder. Suspended from the force, and with no one left to trust, Sam accepts some unexpected help from Gabriel Stern, a shapeshifter who conceals startling secrets.

While investigating the circumstances surrounding her partner’s strange behavior, Sam discovers that Garbriel’s been involved with a dangerous organization that’s planning a war on the human race. More immediate, someone is guarding the truth about Sam’s past—someone who’d rather see her dead than risk her knowing too much. To stay alive, Sam must unravel the threads of her past—and find out not only who she is but what she is.

I received an ARC of the soon to be released U.S. version of Memory Zero by Keri Arthur in Spook Squad series.

Samantha Ryan is having a rough few weeks. Jack, her partner of five years on the police force, has gone missing. When he suddenly makes contact and wants to meet with her, Sam's week goes from bad to worse. Forced to kill her now vampire partner, she is now the chief suspect in his murder and is being accused by his wife as having an affair with him. It's not until Sam begins the investigation of her own that she realizes her partner wasn't all that he seemed to be. Throw in that sexy SIU assistant director Gabriel is now investigating her involvement in the murder, but her past as well, Sam is being attacked both physically and emotionally from all sides. Her past and origins are a mystery to her, but she may not be as human as she once thought. She's developed abilities no human should have and Gabriel will stop at nothing to discovery what is exactly in her genetics.

Memory Zero is a great urban fantasy that will leave the reader unable to put die the book with all the wicked twists and turns. I highly recommend this new to the US Keri Arthur book! A detailed review will be available on the date of publication.

ARC Preview: Poison Promise by Jennifer Estep

Series: Elemental Assasin #11
Published: 7/22/14
Rating: 5 Stars

Official Blurb:

In book eleven of her New York Times bestselling Elemental Assassin series, author Jennifer Estep continues “one of the best urban fantasy series going on the market” (Fresh Fiction).
Gin Blanco is hard-nosed, sexy, and lethal. Nicknamed “The Spider,” she’s a stone elemental assassin who brings her unique mix of magic and tact to every assignment, no matter the target.

There’s a new drug on the streets of Ashland, and its name “Burn” sums up the potent effect it has on its users. When one of her restaurant employees is threatened by dealers of the drug, Gin steps in to set things straight…

ARC Review:

I received an ARC of Jennifer Estep's Poison Promise from the published in return for my honest review. I'll have a more detailed review to be published the day of the books release.

Poison Promise delivers a new action packed adventure with our favorite assassin. Our dear Gin Blanco, aka The Spider, has her hands full in this latest adventure from Jennifer Estep. When her sister Bria is threatened by a Southtown drug lord, Gin pulls out all the stops to ensure her safety which even  includes putting herself into harms way. We also get a glimpse of what's to come with the mysterious M.M. Monroe mentioned in previous books. Gin is all in for the fight, but will she survive the challenge?

Wow. If I could sum up a book review as Wow, I think Poison Promise would fit the bill. To call PP so action packed so much that it leaves the reader on the edge of their seats would be an understatement.  Gin is in for one of the hardest fights of her life. We do get some lighter  moments in the midst of so much darkest with Gin and Owen as well as trying to avoid Finn's annual surprise birthday party for Gin,  This book was simply amazing. It has everything you could have asked for and more. The 12th and possibly final book, Black Widow will be released 11/25/2014.

My name is Madison Avery, and I'm here to tell you that there's more out there than you can see, hear, or touch. Because I'm there. Seeing it. Touching it. Living it.

Madison's prom was killer—literally. For some reason she's been targeted by a dark reaper—yeah, that kind of reaper—intent on getting rid of her, body and soul. But before the reaper could finish the job, Madison was able to snag his strange, glowing amulet and get away.

Now she's stuck on Earth—dead but not gone. Somehow the amulet gives her the illusion of a body, allowing her to toe the line between life and death. She still doesn't know why the dark reaper is after her, but she's not about to just sit around and let fate take its course.

With a little ingenuity, some light-bending, and the help of a light reaper (one of the good guys! Maybe . . . ), her cute crush, and oh yeah, her guardian angel, Madison's ready to take control of her own destiny once and for all, before it takes control of her.

Well, if she believed in that stuff.
